I started writing stories when I was 9, on my mother’s Smith Corona manual typewriter, which I still have, smelling still of ink ribbons and warm metal. I have tons of stuff to post in this section but insist on revising everything before I do, so it might be awhile. For now, here are some that are final…at least for now.

Because writers have to eat, and because I sort of enjoy it, I sometimes write featue stories for institutional publications, mostly interviews and other corporate communications pieces, but also a smattering of magazine journalism. There’s also a series on Art and Technology that has been used in university courses that I have posted here, since it is out of print and hard to find online.

I never really wrote much poetry, but when required to do so as part of my mfa I found that I actually enjoyed it. Turns out I had this overwhelming prejudice against what I thought contemporary poetry was–too highbrow, too complex–but then I finally awakened to the truth that everything is poetry. With no rules or restrictions, poetry became much easier for me.
